Home Care Services

We’ve been providing reliable, flexible and affordable home care (domiciliary care) for more than 10 years. With our support people can live independently at home, with a care worker helping with tasks like washing or shopping.

What is home care?

Domiciliary care can be relatively simple, like helping you get up and about in the morning, making sure you take your medication at the right time, feeding pets or helping you move around the house. Or it could mean high-dependency 24-hour home care.

Our service is flexible and we match the care and the care worker to you. Every visit starts with an assessment of what you need.

Sometimes it’s more social than personal care, such as taking time to have a chat or going out to the shop. No two visits are the same. We work with you and your family to get it right.

Personal Care And Support

There is nothing more important to us than making sure our clients’ wellbeing is looked after. We will offer simple services that make the difference such as assistance with bathing or showering, dressing, and any toiletry needs. These tasks will be conducted by our professionals with the utmost dignity and respect.

We can provide assistance with daily living – for example, getting out of bed, getting dressed, going to the toilet or having a bath. A visit from one of our dedicated care workers can assist with these tasks and others.

Medication Support

Where your health depends on essential medications, we will be there to ensure that it is administered correctly and prompted at the right times.

Companionship and Support

One of the most important aspects of requiring care at home can simply be someone to talk to.

Our staff are well trained to be great listeners, to share stories and also to keep you up to date on current events in the neighbourhood or what’s going on in the world; whatever is of most importance to you.

Live-In Care

What is live-in care?

When older people begin to need help with daily activities most families prefer the option of continuing to live in their own home rather than having to move into a care home.

Live-in care gives elderly people and elderly couples the ability to continue to live independently at home, safe in the knowledge that 24 hour care is on hand from a trained carer to help with anything from companionship, cooking, cleaning through to personal care, medication management or more complex support for specialist conditions such as dementia care, Parkinson’s care or post stroke care. The service also offers genuine continuity of care given that the carer resides in the client’s home on a weekly basis, ensuring that companionship and friendship are a key part of the service.

How is live-in care different?

Live-in care has many advantages over receiving hourly care at home. Not only is your loved one able to continue to enjoy the surroundings and lifestyle with which they are familiar, especially important when living with a condition such as dementia, but they also receive continuity of care enabling them to build a trusted relationship with their carer.

24 hour care at home is uniquely tailored to the needs of each family with a plan of care developed around your daily routines and the outcomes you wish to achieve. Care is provided by two professional, trained carers who will typically rotate on a 1 or 2 week shift pattern. They are matched to your needs and always introduced before care begins.

Unlike most live-in care providers we offer a local service which is managed, supported and quality assured from our local offices in Birmingham. This includes our local care management team carrying out weekly support visits to ensure the client and carer are happy.

Live in care is also a cost effective option compared to residential care homes, particularly for couples who would otherwise be required to pay for two beds in a care home or nursing home.

How is live-in care managed?

Our live-in care service is provided by two professional, trained and locally supported home carers typically rotating on a week-on / week-off basis. This not only ensures genuine continuity of care and the opportunity to build a trusted relationship for the client, but also sufficient rest for the carer.

Importantly, our local care management team visits our clients and home carers in the home on a weekly basis to ensure the package is working well – this is a key differentiator vs. many national providers who are not always able to do this.

Our local care management team also undertakes regular monitoring of the care we provide through our leading quality assurance processes – this includes an initial review after the first 4-weeks, formal reviews at least every 6 months, annual feedback questionnaires and ongoing monitoring of any concerns, events or issues. We also invest a huge amount of time in training, supervising, developing and supporting our home carers which is key to enabling them to provide the highest quality care.

Advantages of 24 hour home care

24-hour professional live-in care at home lets your loved ones continue living in their home
even when alone or when a family carer is away. This comes with considerable benefits:

  • You get one-to-one, personalised support, 24 hours a day, to meet all your individual needs
  • You can stay in your own home, alongside any family or pets
  • You can keep your independence and continue to be part of your local community, with your social life and timetable
  • The companionship of your live in carer helps prevent isolation and loneliness
  • Your care worker can support you to get the medication, nutrition and hydration you need
  • Your care worker can take care of domestic chores such as cooking, cleaning and laundry
  • Your risk of falls and hospitalisation is reduced
  • Peace of mind for your family and loved ones that may not be local, knowing help is at hand 24/7

Why choose Jayas care Care for live in care?

What makes our live in care service special is that we fully manage it. There are many introductory services who, for the same price, offer far less protection and fewer guarantees of the quality care.

We go the extra mile. We employ and pay our care staff, which means we have a duty of care. For example, if your care worker is ill, it’s our job to find someone to replace them.

Fully regulated and managed live-in care

We are fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission. This gives you a higher level of protection and peace of mind, knowing there’s a professional care agency team managing your care. We also guarantee the training, supervision and support of our care staff and care managers.

And we’re always at the end of a phone should you need support.

Our personal approach

We understand that having someone coming to live in your house can be a big step. That’s why we take so much care matching clients and live-in carers. We match a care worker to you through a comprehensive assessment and matching process done by people, not a computer. We take pride in our personal approach to arranging your 24 hour care.

Who is live-in care for?

You may benefit from companionship and some help with daily activities, or you have experienced a change in your health or mobility, or you are living with a complex health condition, or even be struggling to support a spouse or older relative in the way you would like. 24-hour live-in care is quite simply for anybody who wishes to remain in the comfort of their own home with the undivided attention of a single carer.

Live-in care can be arranged on a long-term basis or a short-term respite basis to provide a break to a carer, to aid recovery or to enable an older person to get used to the support.

Our professional live-in carers are fully employed by us – we support and take full responsibility for them and do not use agency staff. They undergo an extensive recruitment and selection process including interviews, reference checks and an Enhanced Criminal Record Check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (only 3% of people who apply are successful). Our staff are trained in all aspects of the care we deliver including specialist training for complex conditions such as medication management, dementia, mobility, Motor Neurone Disease (MND), palliative care, Parkinson’s, strokes.

Some examples of when families may use live-in care include:

Currently Receiving Hourly Visiting Care

It is common for families receiving hourly home care (also referred to as domiciliary care) from a care agency or social services to decide that live-in care is the better option – typically because the number of daily visits required mean that many carers are having to be involved in the care and the cost is equivalent if not more than live-in care. Hourly care costs can also mount up when sleepover night care is required. Live-in care offers the benefit of one-to-one care from two carers who rotate on a weekly basis, ensuring that there is genuine continuity of care and that strong relationships can be developed. It is also typically preferred over having to move into a care home or nursing home.

Specialist Care Needs

Where elderly people are living with complex conditions such as dementia or Parkinson’s or need specialist medication support, full-time live-in care may be more appropriate and effective than hourly visiting care (or domiciliary care). It is also often preferred over having to move into an institutional care home or nursing home. Live-in care offers genuine continuity of care from a dedicated live-in carer and therefore enables better, more personalised care delivery and genuine client / carer relationships to be established. It can also be managed alongside specialist input from district nurses, physiotherapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists and doctors.

Returning from a Care Home or Nursing Home

We support older people who have been living in a care home or nursing home and wish to return to their own home where they are generally much happier and able to live a more independent life. If you wish to return home from residential care our care management team are able to assess your care needs in your current setting and also work with health professionals such as occupational therapists and nurses to ensure this can happen safely. We are also able to support more complex needs such as medication management, dementia care and Parkinson’s care through our live-in care service.

Hospital Discharge

In order to discharge from hospital an appropriate level of care must be in place to ensure this is safe and sustainable. Our live-in care team are able to help elderly people undertake a managed return home from hospital, including undertaking assessments of your needs in hospital and at home and liaising with the hospital healthcare professionals including the discharge team, ward manager, nurses, doctors and specialists. We specialise in supporting older people with rehabilitation, convalescence and recovery alongside doctors, district nurses, occupational therapists and physiotherapists, and support from a live-in carer provides the added reassurance of support being on-hand 24/7.

Home Care for Couples

Live-in care is available to elderly couples, either when both people require support or just one individual. This enables senior couples to remain together in the familiar setting of their own home, always with the support of a professional carer on-hand to help with anything from domestic support through to personal care or medication help. Live-in care for couples offers a significant cost saving vs. residential care since the cost relates to only one carer, whereas in a care home the couple would have to pay for two beds.

Falls Prevention

A major cause of ill-health and hospital admissions amongst older people are falls. The presence of a professionally trained live-in carer can play a key part in prevention and ensuring that elderly people can live safely at home, even when they are living with complex needs or have severe mobility issues. A live-in carer is also able to quickly raise the alarm if a client experiences a fall and requires urgent medical care, thereby preventing more serious events arising such as hospital admission.

Domestic Support

Our Homecare staff will tend to the everyday household duties on your behalf, so you are able to focus on the important things. This can include light housework, laundry, dusting, cleaning, pets plants and much more.

Accompaniment to Appointments

We don’t want you to stop your regular appointments, so our professional staff will accompany you to ensure your safety and comfort are always put first. Examples of such appointments might be trips to day centres, places of worship, social outings and more. We can also accompany you to GP or hospital appointments.

Hourly Care

Highly personalised hourly care at home

Our hourly care service provides families with a tailored care at home service designed around your needs, enabling loved ones who require some additional support in the tasks of daily living to remain in the comfort of their own home whilst maintaining the highest quality of life achievable.

Dementia and Alzheimer’s

Jayas Care has considerable experience of caring for people with dementia in all care situations including: home care, live-in and end of life care. We are investing heavily in training and developing our workforce skills in this specific area of care delivery. We want our care workers to be able to detect signs of dementia or memory loss so that early intervention measures can be taken and support packages put in place without delay. This can have a major effect on managing the condition and helping families to understand and support their loved one. We are also developing teams of specialist staff who can support somebody in the later stages of Dementia and Alzheimer’s.

By understanding the individual through our thorough assessment process and liaison with family and professionals, we can develop a care and support plan that is sensitive to their routines, interests and social and cultural background.

Meal Preparation

Ensuring you receive the right nourishment on a regular basis is important to your health and wellbeing. We are there to make sure meals are prepared when you choose, and that they provide a balanced mix of wholesome ingredients suited to your individual requirements.

Shopping

In addition to assisting you with the practical task of shopping away from the house, we will also Unpack, store and make everything accessible for you in your own home.

Our care workers can accompany you on shopping visits, or do the shopping trips for you.
